BLOG # 12 GATTACA

After watching Gattaca in class yesterday. Which by the way was a phenomenal movie!
It really opened my eyes as to how far people will go to strive for the best. If this country emphasized on making the perfectly engineered human being. there would be way more hatred then there already is. America already criticizes and prides itself on there appearance. Having everyone see this "superior" human being would most likely cause conflict and concern.

Everyone would try to be the best. Which is not a bad thing. However,
what happens when they try too hard to be the best and can never reach that moment of perfection. They
may end up committing suicide because they haven't reached the standards that this "genetically superior
human being" has made.

BLOG # 10: REFLECTION

This English course has been really helpful in many ways. I’ve learned
different aspects of certain content studied in this course, that I did not know existed. In the beginning of the semester, we studied Plato’s story “ Allegory of The Cave”. Within the story, there were a few of nuances relating to illusion and reality. How people will live in ignorance not knowing there is a whole out there beyond what they are used too. Then as we progressed, “ Allegory of The Cave” was the segue into The Matrix film we viewed in class. Which for me was the most interesting piece of work we’ve studied in class so far.

The Matrix had so many different comparisons to religion, life, illusions, and reality. When we spoke about it in class I learned so many things about the movie that I would’ve never learned and compared too on my own. Having Neo portrayed as the Jesus dying for our sins and resurrecting after being murdered was unbelievable. Or when Morpheus broke from his chains after being captured by the agents, comparing that of when slave broke free from there shackles was just so real. What really bought it home for me was when we compared the Matrix to our everyday lives. When Cipher stated “ ignorance is bliss” in the film. As we elaborated on it class, it was so true. People may live in their own reality, there own Matrix. Where they can just be happy everyday not wanting to know or understand certain aspects of there life that made them who they are. Maybe there not proud of it or really don’t know, but I feel that as much as people run away from the problems in there life. Problems always run faster.

Oedipus the King I thought was a great play as well. Although, the old English
Wording threw me off a bit. As I read on, I began to understand the play. I’ve heard of Oedipus, especially when people mention the “Oedipus Complex”. However, I never knew the story until we began going over in class. A lot of people in the world unknowingly have an Oedipus Complex. But what I really
Enjoyed about the story, and how it is similar to Matrix was that damn Oracle.
The main characters in the both stories relied in that Oracle. From both stories, I came to two conclusions, not to go to any fortune tellers, cause I can see that it has ruined lives; and my second conclusion was that our destiny maybe chosen for us already. No “Oracle” is gonna tell me what is destined for me. Only, I can make that choice if I decide to want to know the truth and believe in myself. I believe all things are possible.

This has been the first time I’ve ever done blogging before in a college course.
I’ve heard of people of entertainment shows and websites blogging about celebrities and make-up tips, but never actually knew what a blog was. That is, until I entered this course. Blogging is actually pretty fun. Blogging in class for me is actually is better because I feel I’m on a time limit, which I am; but I want my blog to be great within that time I have to do it. As oppose to when I get home, and I try to blog, nothing comes out. I know its very weird. The blogging and feedback to my blogs has helped me quite a bit, because it made me see how my writing is at this point, and what I can do to improve my writing. The best blog I’ve done so far, has to be Blog # 1, 4, and 10. I feel those I’ve written in particular, I took a certain stand in those. I felt very strongly about was I writing and was content with what I’ve written. I wanna do better and I know I can do better with my blogs. I just have to stop being afraid of what I’m going write and just write what I’m feeling. I must brainstorm, and make sure my ideas are placed correctly and the grammar is good. Overall, I do enjoy this class. I like what we are studying and can’t wait to learn more.

BLOG # 8

The Matrix film and the play, Oedipus: The King have similarities beyond the eye can see.
In the film as well as the play, The main characters were two very misguided indivisuals. Both characters, Neo and Oedipus; were confused when it came to there lives and the future that they were destined. Neo as well as Oedipus were living in ignorance. Neo and Oedipus were both thirsty for knowledge and wisdom beyond there control.

Oedipus like Neo went on a path to find out who he was as a person and what he was destined to be in life.
Both characters thought they were wise beyond there years. However, suspicion grew when they were approached by people who would begin the climax in both stories. For Neo, the turning point was Morpheus. Morpheus raised questions in Neo's mind which led him on a path to find himself. Oedipus was told by a friend in modern terms " you don't even know who the hell you are". Which led him on a journey to discover what everyone else already sees, that they just can't seem to find.

Neo and Oedipus live in ignorance not by choice, but by omission. Noone wanted to tell them who they were. The people they were close to, told them to find the answers for themselves. Which led both
characters to the Oracle. The Oracle was in both stories to tell them there future. In the Matrix film, Neo was told by Morpheus, that the Oracle will tell him what was destined to happen in his life. Neo didn't beleive in the Oracle. Oedipus was

ESSAY #1: MATRIX REVISED

I believe that everyone has a right to chose there destiny. Whether it be to forget the horrible events that happened in there life and or live in bliss forever and a choice. In the film The Matrix, there lived a man names Morpheus. Morpheus in the film was very similar to Morpheus: The Greek God of Dreams. Matrix was a dream of reality controlled by machines that wanted life to be bliss. A utopia of some sorts. However, it did not go as planned in the film such as life. Life never goes as planned. Everything is always a surprise.

When Morpheus gave Neo a choice of two pills. The red pill would bring  Neo out of the Matrix and learn new things about the reality and how dysfunctional life really is. It would give him the answers that he wanted out of reality. Answers that would free his mind of the dream of the Matrix. Then Neo was offered a blue pill; that would keep him in the Matrix. He could live in the same world and not know about reality. Just living life day to day not knowing that there is a whole other world. As Cipher said it perfectly… “ Ignorance is bliss”.

Morpheus is in the film is very similar to Morpheus: The Greek God of Dreams. The God of Dreams was in charge of two rivers. One river was named the River of Forgetfulness, which was the blue pill for Neo to forget about the Matrix and live in the illusion of life. Or swim in the River of Oblivion, which would be the red pill and Neo could enter the painful world of reality. In the world we live in today, we do have a choice in a sense. We are each given a path in life ever since birth. We are all destined for some type of greatness. We make the choice of following the path we are given or going into a downward spiral.
