THE ALLEGORY OF THE CAVE, BLOG # 5

In the Allegory of the cave, Plato signifies the cave as the illusion
people live in each day. The  main idea was that people should be brought to light about what is going on in there world. In the story it seems that people were being denied the right to be aware of there surroundings.

"THE ILLUSION, BLOG # 4"

I believe that Credit Cards are an illusion, created by banks to bring in more money from americans.
For many years, people have used credit cards to pay for their homes, cars, and even tuition for college.
However, after all of these materialistic items and bills are purchased and paid for; many americans fall into
credit card debt! Due to people believing that credit is actually real money that is theirs to spend. When in all reality, that credit has to be paid back. When the debt is not paid back, it goes on the person's credit report and makes it harder for them to receive any type of credit from any company again.
Then illusion of credit has been going on for many many years. Dating all the way to the 1930's.
Of course it wasn't called credit cards back then, it was called " Lone Sharking". Where in people would borrow money from someone called a "Lone Shark". Except, when you pay them back the money on time;
you have to pay interest, sometimes as high as 15%. Well back then, if you didn't pay them back, they would
either break your legs or kill you. These days, they don't hurt you physically, but banks will hurt you financially. According to http://www.news.newamericamedia.org/; there are five billion credit card pre-approvals a year. This causing the poor people to become poorer and the banks to obtain more money.
It saddens me to see so many people end up homeless, or in financial despair due to credit card debt.
In my opinion, this is an illusion that will only grow bigger in america and around the world.

BLOG # 3, I WAS SOOO SCARED!

For a long time I used to believe that a lot of myths were real.
One myth however, really scared the shit out of me. It all started, maybe I would say 15 years ago; when the horror movie "Candyman" was released into the movie Theatres. The story is about a black slave whowas having a intimate relationship with his white slave owner's daughter. When the relationship was found out by fellow slaves, it was reported to the slave owner. The Slave Owner found the black slave and tortured him. He beat him up and then rubbed his entire body with honey. not too long after, a hive of honeybees came and stung the slave to death. After he died they sawed off his right hand and put a hook in the bloody stump that was once the hand he caressed his love with.
Myth had it, that after the slave died; his spirit became evil and wanted revenge for the life and love he lost. As a result of his brutal murder; his spirit would kill anyone who went into the bathroom, looked in the mirror and stated the name " Candyman" five times. After you finished saying his name. You would turn off the lights and he would appear with bloody hook in place and slash your throat.  I remember as a child, I was sooo scared and horrified. When I used the bathroom, I would leave the door open, cause I was afraid this man would appear out of the shadows.
As I became older, I realized that this was such a joke. First of all, I saw this actor who played "Candyman" in other horror movies. Also, I analyzed what he was wearing in this movie that scared me. This man that was slashing people's throats would wear a Brooks Brothers Suit, A big Fur coat, Pimp shoes with a bloody hook attatched to his arm. I think about it now and it cracks me up.
I used to see guys that looked like him where I grew up, just without the hook.
A lot of things I believed as a child, now has come to light.
The Tooth Fairy isn't really, The Easter Bunny, never brought me candy, and Santa Clause never
appeared to me in a red suit. However, one thing was real.... my imagination.

My public self and private self are two different people living in one house.
In public... I am "Irene"; I am very professional, nice, sweet, funny, and can be very loud. I'm
usually the life of the party when I hang out with my friends. The crazy thing is, when people meet me    for first time, they're impression is that I'm such a sweet girl. Even to the extent of believing that I am  a pushover. People try to take advantage of my public self a lot. That's when "Renie" comes in. "Renie"is my private self. Renie is cool, down to earth and doesn't let anyone walk all over her. People cometo my private self for advice and to make them laugh. My private self is a mother, girlfriend, a singer, and a friend. My public self and private self are two great people.
Everyone has a public self and private self. I believe that everyone needs to be
two different people at times. I think of our public selves and private selves as "drag". When I refer
to the word "drag", I mean as a "drag queen". "drag queens", dress up, wear the best outfits, hair and make-up and give millions of people the performance of there life. They make us laugh, some even make us cry. They're performance is what we remember as the first impression. But when they take off the hair, the make-up,  and the ambiance. They become there private selves. They become who there private selves. That is how I view my public self and private self. As if I live in drag by day and become my private self when I walk through the door of my home.
As my public self, I should speak up more. A few of my friends tell me that I can be
passive aggressive at times. People can say the most hurtful things and I will not confront them, because I don't want to start a confrontation. Now a days, people have a very short fuse; including myself. Which is why I hardly start a fight. That is a huge problem because, My private self will infuse with anger. I will bring the problems I had in public to my home which is private. My public
issues would have been non-existent if I took charge head on with it in the first place.  That is the difference between my public and private self. My private self has a lot of balls. A burning desire to
succeed in everything that I do. That's where my public self and private self are similar. They
both want to do better but still needs time to grow.
